Human and Canine Heroes

There are a multitude of trainers out there offering different types of training classes and different types of training techniques.  Although I can't really speak for anyone else, I think everyone finds that area that they become truly passionate about.  It could be the Conformation world, it could be the Competitive Obedience world....for me, it's the family dog and the rescued dog.

There is nothing quite like the family that calls to inquire about Puppy Kindergarten because they've just brought home their 8 week old new family member and want to "do things right".  You can hear both excitement and confusion in their voice over the phone!  And yeah, sometimes even a little frustration.  ;)  But once you sit down with them and start to teach them how their dog really thinks and how to turn negatives into positives, you can see a whole new respect developing for that little ball of fur.  Almost like "Oh!  I get you now!"  Watching a family raise a puppy up and enjoy it  - because they understand it - is one of the best feelings in the world!

The dictionary defines "hero" as "a man of distinguished courage or ability; admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities".

The rescue dog holds a very special place in my heart.   I truly believe that the people that adopt from the rescue organizations and shelters - or anywhere that a dog can be rescued from - are true heroes.  Most times, when adopting a rescue dog, you aren't fortunate enough to get the history.  You have no idea what your new family member has faced in his life...and sometimes, getting your new family member comfortable in their new world is an enormous task.  Some of these dogs don't even know how to be dogs.  :(

I've worked with so many rescue dogs and each of them has their own story.  Some transition more easily than others, but all of them go through a process.  I wish that I had kept a more detailed journey for each of them because this web page has always existed in my mind...I knew that someday when I had the time, it would come to life.  Unfortunately, I didn't do that.

This page is dedicated to those rescue dogs that have faced struggles...but because of the dedication of their human heroes, they are becoming well-balanced, happy canine's...which makes all of them heroes, too.

Click on the name to read their story.  They'd appreciate it.
